Learn French Card Game - People + Eating & Drinking Vocabulary (Double Deck)

Great Christmas present. Bought this as a bit of fun for my partner who is learning french.

Kloo French reviewI saw Kloo mentioned on FaceBook and had a look online to find more information. I found lots of excellent reviews and decided that for such a reasonable price it was worth the gamble. I am so glad that I took a chance as it is even better than I had hoped.
We have the French Deck 1 and 2 pack and have played it with ages 4 – 80. The 4 year old needed adult help but the colour coding made it very easy for them to join in and they picked up some words and had fun. We had a 60 year old who had never learned French before who was able to play straight away, learned lots of new words and had great fun. The pronunciation guides are an invaluable tool and allow you to check that you are saying things correctly.
The 80 year old with experience of French found the game very engaging and fun. The children thought it was great that they could beat the adults!
It is a quick game to play and this ensures that no one gets bored. The children are always asking to play and this means that the vocabulary is sticking. The competitive element also means that they are keen to learn the words and pay attention to the cards! They also enjoyed keeping score (so great for maths) – I may get them to do this in French too!
We are looking forward to learning some of the other games (there are 16 in total!).
The fact that you can add future tenses (downloading them for free) and add your own cards means that the game can expand as your knowledge of the language grows.
My children want to get the Spanish set too and wish that it also came in German and Latin!

I am a French teacher and this game has worked well my beginning students. We have been using decks 1 & 2 (people and food). It's a great way to practice sentence structure and the students enjoy the competition. They say that it is fun and "painless". Even my less motivated students get into the game and like the fact that they can use the clue words on the bottom of the cards to figure out the new / unknown words. They have even started to "steal" words for points when their classmates falter in their translations. This has added even more competition as the students must really be prepared and quickly translate. Many have become more vigilant and make good use of the resource of the word bank they create from the bottom clue words. I have noticed an improvement in the students's writing since working with the Kloo decks. Their sentences have become more detailed and they are better with adjective placement and agreement.
Fun with grammar!. I am looking forward to the addition of more tenses and I would like to see more connectives such as relative pronouns (qui, que, dont & où) and transitional words (d'abord, ensuite, puis, etc) that you can never practice enough.

A must for language teachers. As a languages teacher, it can sometimes be hard to motivate students to enjoy languages, KLOO is a different way for my classes to learn French in a fun way. My low ability year 9 class love it; as a class where half the students are absolute beginners, KLOO is incredibly inclusive. The cards are colour coded for verbs, nouns, adjectives etc, so without knowing it the students are improving not only their french grammar but their english too and the unknown vocab is also translated on the bottom of a different card. My students love this game and I would recommend it to anyone looking to learn french, whether it be in a classroom or at home!

Great travel companion. Played these with out teenagers on the Eurostar to Paris. They were good fun, passed the time and we all improved our vocabulary.

I teach Spanish and French to children and adults of all ages in both 1-2-1 lessons and small groups, and I am always investing in new ways to make lessons exciting. Kloo is fabulous for either reinforcing vocabulary and learning new vocabulary. So far my students have loved it - I have used it as a recap with a French GCSE student and with a young couple who love having something to take home and work on - but without having to find a huge amount of time to sit down and open a book. Three of my students already want to buy their own sets to play at home, which I very much encourage! One student told me they could happily "play for hours without getting bored".The KLOO game website is fantastic too; I have read some reviews that say that the game gets boring or too easy once you have learnt the set of words; simply not true... KLOO has cleverly thought of a solution.On the KLOO website and YouTube there are instructions and video explanations for 16 different games (you can download a PDF handbook and keep the rules on your phone or tablet) and you can also download extension sets. This allows you to build new cards in your deck to work in the past and future tenses. Since tense errors are the MOST common error in exams, this is a great way to ensure they have understood sentence structures :)

This game is an excellent way of improving your French and enabling you to make interesting sentences. I purchased this as all three teenagers are taking French GCSE so a fun way to improve the changes of an A! We enjoyed the game so much that I purchased the Spanish game too as I am learning Spanish playing this with the children is a fun way of improving my Spanish vocabulary too.

The Kloo game pack contains 120 cards with various words about people, food and drink as well as many of the verbs that are commonly used in French (buy, like, see, hear etc).The object of the game is to build sentences from the cards you've been dealt. Each card has a French word in the top left corner as well as coloured arrows that indicate which colour cards you can place before or after it.Building a sentence wins you one point for each card you have used and another point for each word you can translate correctly. There's also a handy pronunciation guide at the top of each card that's a great help for newcomers (Fille (Girl) is pronounced fee-yuh, not fill-ee).At the bottom of each card is a different French word with an English translation that helps refresh your memory as to what some of the other French words in the pack mean. You don't necessarily need to play the Kloo game to use the cards either as you can just shuffle the cards and turn them over to try and build sentences. It just seems far more interesting than repeating sentences from a phrase book or study book.

I bought this game for myself and another adult to start learning French because things are easier when they're fun. I think this is a really smart game because it's so simple -- and you can bring the cards with you easily. we've played the game a number of times and it's a nice combination of card game like gin rummy as well as "concentration" where you need to try to remember things -- both of which are helpful in learning a language. I also like that you can print out your own cards, though I haven't done it and I'm not sure how well they'd integrate if not printed on the same card stock. the cards present a phonetic spelling of the words but we also keep a cellphone handy with google translate to help correct our pronunciation. I imagine that this would also be good for kids (assuming they're old enough -- I'm in no position to suggest how old that would be) because, unlike so many other things mean to be instructive in this day and age, it's not electronic and, as such, promotes interaction with others. oh, one more thing, you have to say the sentences that you build out loud. for people learning a language, getting familiar speaking these words publicly is really good, too, not just to develop their pronunciation but to get over the hurdle some of us have which is "I feel stupid speaking a language I don't know."I had thought there would be many games to teach a language but I will say that I think these guys did a good job with this.

I bought this game to try and help my children (10 and 11 yr old boys) with their French vocabulary and confidence in making sentences. It is great, in a very straightforward manner they confidently create accurate sentences. After the first game they both said how surprised they were that they had enjoyed 'doing' French, and what a great game it was. It is very versatile and we now have various 'family' rules incorporated into the game. 6 weeks after purchase we still enjoy and use the cards regularly. Thank you Kloo

My interest is Italian and I bought all four packs of the cards for playing with my 6 year old grand daughter. Unfortunately there Is no board with the Italian but I also have the Spanish set with board which can easilly be used. Let me first say that the quality of the items are first class and to the same high standard of major games such as Monopoly. You aren't going to learn much more than very elementary grammar from these games but the quantity of cards available increase vocabulary knowledge and very simple sentence construction is encouraged by simple colour codes. The board has several neutral spaces that we adapt to 'missing a turn' or 'exchange a card' which keeps the game lively. I cannot recommend these games highly enough.

I am always looking for something new to excite my students and keep them engaged. KLOO is one of their favorites. I have a comercial language school and teach one on one as well as in groups. KLOO works equally well in both settings and is fun for all levels. My beginners enjoy it as much as my third year students. It is versatile and lends itself well to creating new forms of the game suited to the users. We keep score and competition can get fierce. I started with one set and am waiting on delivery of my final pieces to own everything clue makes!

Bought the cards AND the board game. Cards teach you word order/how to form sentences and how to pronounce words. Card decks are the same as cards used in game (Race to paris). Game is my preferred way to learn -- because it's social and if you play with a French speaker, you get immediate feedback -- it's just more fun than simply forming sentences with cards, but cards are much more portable -- so I can use them more often (i.e., I can and do take them to work and form sentences with them on my breaks). I like having both cards and game.

Great game. I found it harder to get into than the English version, but that is only because I am learning this language as well as my children. Definitely need to play the game regularly, I can see it being an important addition to our language learning tools.

Just discovered these great language games by Kloo and what a find. These games are well-designed and well-thought-out. My language students love them and have truly learned so much sentence structure and new vocabulary as a result of playing. I have tried many other games but these are the most effective at helping students to remember words and expressions. Students want to keep playing and learning. There are many different ways that these games can be used including homework, review, and just plain fun.They work well for individuals and groups. These games are the best language tool I have used in years.

Bought this for my children - they love it. It engages them for hours, they've learnt loads of vocabulary and grammar - brilliant. I've recommended it to friends for their kids too, and to my students.

My husband and I are going to France & Itay in November, neither of us Speak any French, and saw this game online. It is so much fun, and we have learned a lot! So much, that we bought the Italian version as well! Fun way to learn a new language!

The game can be adapted in several ways and the sentences to be formed are infinite. We really have fun to play this game with my students.

It's a great game to learn and use a new language naturally and easily! After the first purchase for deck 1&2, I've purchased the deck 3&4 to expand more vocabularies and more fun! Recommend to anyone who wants to learn French or simply just have fun. You almost need no basics and there's pronunciation guide under each words. Each deck includes different topic and all commonly used words, highly recommended to all ages who wants to learn French!

Bought French decks 1 to 4 of this game. As the wholefamily is at different learning stages, the game allows us to learntogether. I would recommend buying the race to Paris version, which iswhat I wish I had done. I really recommend this game to anyonelearning a language who enjoys playing games.
